Govinda rejected ‘Biwi No.1’ because of Sushmita Sen! This heroine was the first one to replace Karisma

Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor starrer ‘Biwi No. 1’ has completed 25 years. Released in 1999, this film also featured Sushmita Sen and Anil Kapoor. It was directed by David Dhawan. ‘Biwi No. 1’ was the second highest grossing film of 1999. But did you know that earlier, not Salman Khan, but Govinda was the lead hero in this film? David Dhawan had a superhit pair with Govinda. Together they gave films like ‘Aunty No. 1’, ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Jodi No. 1’ and ‘Anari No. 1’. But Salman Khan was cast in ‘Biwi No. 1’. Biwi No 1 was the Hindi remake of the 1995 Tamil film ‘Sati Leelavathi’ and that film was also inspired by the Hollywood movie She-Devil.

Govinda got the role in the film before Salman Khan

In ‘Biwi No. 1’, Salman played the role of a husband who has an extra-marital affair. In the film, Karisma Kapoor played the role of his/her wife, while Sushmita Sen played the girl with whom Salman had an affair. This role was written keeping Govinda in mind because his/her pairing with Karisma Kapoor was a superhit.

But according to reports, Govinda refused to work with Sushmita Sen. According to ‘DNA’, the makers wanted to keep Sushmita in the film, and they stood by their decision. Govinda too did not budge, and he/she returned the signing amount to producer Vashu Bhagnani.

Govinda gave the reason that he/she cannot play a character which is similar to his/her previous characters. he/she has played such roles in many films where a man cheats on his/her wife. You will also be surprised to know that earlier Manisha Koirala was supposed to play the role of Karisma Kapoor. But for some reason things did not work out and then Karisma was signed. Otherwise the original pair of this film was not Salman and Karisma but Manisha Koirala and Govinda.
