Got a place in the playing XI in place of Kuldeep, record breaking bowling in the comeback match


New Delhi. All-rounder Washington Sundar was not included in India’s Test squad earlier. After losing the first test match against New Zealand, the Indian team included him/her in the team for the second and third test. Sundar got a wild card entry in the test squad. This player is in the news for his/her brilliant bowling in the first innings of the second test match against New Zealand. Sundar is getting a lot of praise for his/her record-breaking bowling, which came to play Test after almost 4 years. After his/her excellent performance, Sundar said that he/she will never forget this day.

Washington Sundar also gave credit for his/her excellent bowling to Ranji Trophy. Earlier this month, he/she scored an inning of 152 runs while batting at number three against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Also took six wickets. Seeing this performance, head coach Gautam Gambhir included this all-rounder in India’s playing eleven for the second Test. Washington proved the decision of coach Gambhir and captain Rohit correct by taking 7 wickets for 59 runs. This is his/her first Test after March 2021.

‘It was a great opportunity for me to play Tamil Nadu-Delhi match’
Talking about the importance of playing red-ball matches at the domestic level, the Tamil Nadu player told the media in the press conference held after the day’s play, ‘It was a great opportunity for me to play the Tamil Nadu-Delhi match. Because it is good to play with the red ball every time and maintain the rhythm with both bat and ball in red ball cricket. Also maintaining continuity is important. The 25-year-old player said how bowling a lot of overs in Ranji matches was helpful for him/her. he/she said, ‘It also helped that I got a chance to bowl a lot of overs in that match. I am grateful for that. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this day, it was very special.

‘Keep improving as a cricketer’
Washington said his/her intention was to improve his/her skills without conforming to any particular style of all-rounder. According to Sundar, ‘One should not think too much about any notion. I just focus on what I can do as a player. Keep improving as a cricketer. Washington has taken 65 wickets in 31 first-class matches in the eight years since his/her debut. The team already had a spin all-rounder in the form of Axar Patel but the Indian team management gambled on Sundar which worked. This is the first time in the history of the World Test Championship that a bowler has taken 7 wickets in an innings against New Zealand. Earlier this year, Prabhat Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka had taken 6 wickets for 42 runs against New Zealand.
