Goods train collides with Kanchenjunga Express in West Bengal, 5 dead, Railways issues helpline numbers

New Delhi : The Sealdah bound Kanchenjunga Express in West Bengal collided with a freight train near New Jalpaiguri on Monday morning. A senior official of the North Frontier Railway (NFR) gave this information. The Divisional Railway Manager of the North Frontier Railway Katihar Division said that 5 people are reported dead in this accident that occurred around 9 am. The official said that 13174 Kanchenjunga Express coming from Agartala collided with a freight train near Rangapani near New Jalpaiguri station. Relief and rescue operations are underway after the accident. The railways have issued helpline numbers for passengers.

Mamata Banerjee expressed grief

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted on social media platform ‘X’ and said, “I am shocked to know about a tragic railway accident in Phansidewa area of ​​Darjeeling district just now. Detailed information is awaited, it is said that Kanchenjunga Express has been hit by a freight train. She further wrote that District Magistrate, SSP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been sent to the spot for rescue, relief and medical assistance. Action has been started on a war footing. Railway officials said that 13174 Kanchenjunga Express was going from Agartala to Sealdah. Meanwhile, this accident happened at around nine in the morning.
