Good news! Malaria vaccine has been made, know who made it

New Delhi: The first malaria vaccine has been developed by India’s Serum Institute of India and Oxford University. Ivory Coast has become the first country to use it. 656,600 doses of R21 vaccine have been sent here. The malaria vaccine developed by Oxford University and India’s Serum Institute of India (SII) is being sent to Africa after getting recognition from the World Health Organization. This is the world’s second malaria vaccine.

Oxford and SII’s malaria vaccine now in Africa

This vaccine has been made by Oxford University and SII, which is called R21. This vaccine will be given to children in Abidjan, the commercial capital of the West African country. It is going to start soon. The vaccine makers and their partners gave this information in a statement. The statement said that this new vaccine has been approved by Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Central African Republic. Many other countries are also preparing to acquire it.

More than 6 lakh 56 thousand doses to Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast has so far received 656,600 doses of the vaccine. These will initially be used to vaccinate 250,000 children from newborns to 23 months in 16 regions of Ivory Coast. The World Health Organization recommended the use of this vaccine for children under five years of age in Africa in 2023. More than 600,000 people die from this disease every year in Africa.

The Ivory Coast health ministry said four people die from the disease every day in Ivory Coast alone. Malaria is one of the world’s most overlooked diseases. 95 percent of the world’s malaria cases and 96 percent of deaths occur in Africa. Most of these deaths occur in poor countries on the African continent. There has been little impetus for vaccine development because there is no viable commercial market for it. The new vaccine has been authorized by Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic, and several others are preparing to receive shipments.
