Give details of 150 DMs whom Amit Shah called… Election Commission seeks response on Jairam Ramesh’s claim

New Delhi : The Election Commission on Sunday sought factual details from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh regarding his/her claim that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had spoken to 150 district officials and collectors over the phone before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on June 4. In a letter sent to Ramesh, the Commission has asked him/her to share the details of his/her claims by 7 pm on Sunday.

What did the commission say?

The commission said that till date, no district magistrate has reported experiencing any undue influence. However, the poll body, given the gravity of the allegations levelled by a senior leader, insisted on obtaining specific details to settle the issue in the ‘larger public interest’. The process of counting of votes is a sacred duty cast on every RO (Returning Officer). As such, such public statements by a senior, responsible and experienced leader create an element of suspicion and, therefore, deserve to be removed in the larger public interest, the letter said. It said, though no DM has reported any undue influence, the EC has sought details and information from Jairam Ramesh of 150 DMs who have been influenced by Amit Shah, as alleged by Ramesh. Ramesh believes this to be true, and thus has made these allegations.

Reference to Jayaram’s ex-post

The Election Commission cited Jairam Ramesh’s post on ‘X’ on June 1 in which he/she claimed that the outgoing Home Minister was calling district officials/collectors. So far he/she has spoken to 150 of them. This is an open and blatant threat that shows how desperate the BJP is. Let it be clear that the will of the people will prevail, and on June 4 Modi, Shah and the BJP will be ousted. ‘India Janabandhan’ will win. Officials should not succumb to any pressure and must uphold the Constitution. They are under surveillance.
