Actress Gitanjali Mishra, who left her mark in diverse characters in the serial ‘Crime Patrol’, is now winning people’s hearts as Rajesh in the TV show ‘Happu Ki Ultan Paltan’. At the same time, now she is also going to enter new fields like sports. Geetanjali is the owner of a team in the youth badminton league which is going to start soon. We had a special conversation with Gitanjali on all these aspects: ‘Sports is a medium which connects people of every section, every state, every caste and religion with each other. At the same time, if you master it, you can also increase the pride of the country. Therefore, despite being in the field of acting, when I got a chance to join sports, I did not delay. This is what Rajesh of the TV show Happu Ki Ultan Paltan i.e. actress Geetanjali Mishra has to say, who has bought a team for the soon-to-start youth badminton league. Actresses like Urvashi Dholakia, Upasana Singh, Deepshikha Nagpal, Aastha Chaudhary are also associated with this league. Regarding joining this league, Gitanjali says, ‘Badminton is a game which all of us have played. From children to elders, people of all ages will see you playing badminton. In this league, players from small places will be searched and given opportunities, they will be given training, so that like IPL, these players can also bring glory to the country in the future. In such a situation, when I got a chance to buy a team in this league, I felt that I should join it. According to me, there cannot be a better opportunity than this to contribute something to the society.

‘I have rejected fifty web series’

Geetanjali, who was a part of Anurag Basu’s famous film Ludo along with many famous shows like Crime Patrol, Naagin 3, Kundali Bhagya on the small screen, was also seen in many music videos in the past. She says, ‘I am an artist, I want to explore myself in every way. So, I did the album of bhajans with Anup Jalota ji. Then, he/she did another collaboration with famous Haryana singer MD Desi Rockstar, Dunali, which became a huge hit. Whereas the Haryanvi song Hawa Gaam with Subhash Fauji was a heart touching song. But these days, Geetanjali has a slightly different opinion regarding OTT, which has become the favorite platform of most TV actors. According to Geetanjali, ‘I have done web series on OTT like Vioprit and Kafas but I have my own limits. I have drawn some lines for myself, beyond which I do not want to go and unfortunately I am not comfortable with the kind of content being created on OTT. According to me, the definition of women’s desire that is being created in the name of feminism on OTT is fake feminism. Desire is not only for sex. Therefore, I have rejected fifty web series. We have censorship on films here, but not on OTT which should be there. I think there should be some decorum there too. This is why I am a little behind in this matter.

‘Mother stopped seeing me in that role’

Geetanjali has been playing different roles in Crime Patrol for a long time. She says that she has often heard criticism for playing negative characters in the show. But was she ever influenced while doing these crime stories? On this he/she told, ‘There was a story of Rita Gomes. She was a divorced Catholic woman with two children. She was gang raped in the car. Since she was from a culture where wearing a skirt or drinking beer is common, it was repeatedly said in the court that there were five people in a car, so how could a woman be raped there? Then why does a divorced, mother of two need to go to a restaurant and drink beer? I played the role of Rita Gomes in it and it had an impact on me for a month and a half. It was not only on me, but also on my mother. After that he/she stopped watching such stories.

have risen above love

Geetanjali, who is playing the role of a mother of nine children in her show Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, is also taking up the responsibility of raising her late sister’s two children in her personal life. For this he/she has even decided not to marry. But will she hold herself back when love comes knocking? When asked this, Geetanjali says, ‘See, we have risen very high with love. They have come out of that age of blind love. Now I am not alone, there are three people with me. Although, financially I do not need any partner or support, but at the emotional level sometimes I think that I am a mother, the children are growing up, what after that! And mothers make us realize this more. Our upbringing is also such that we cannot share many emotions with our mother or children. My mother keeps saying what after me? When children will have their own world tomorrow, you will think, what about me? So I say we will see when that time comes (laughs).
