Germany is becoming a popular destination to study abroad, record number of students are taking admission, what is the reason?

Study in Germany: Thousands of students from all over the world are coming to study in German universities. The arrival of students is coming at a time when there is a shortage of skilled workers in the country. This is the reason why now institutions and government are working towards providing many career opportunities for foreign students studying in Germany. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has launched the ‘Skilled Labor Initiative’, which is currently providing good career opportunities to foreign students.
DAAD President Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee said, “We must do more in science, business and society to open career paths in Germany for young people coming from all over the world to study.” DAAD has also conducted a survey, in which more than 200 universities participated. This survey includes 70% of foreign students from Germany. This survey tells what is the trend in the admission of foreign students this year and what kind of difficulties they are facing.

Number of foreign students increasing in universities

According to the DAAD survey, 4,05,000 foreign students are going to study in Germany in winter 2024-25, compared to 3,80,000 last year. The number of foreign students is stable or increasing in almost 90% of universities. More than half of the universities reported that the number of foreign students has increased. A third have seen an increase of 10% or more. This year, about 88,000 new foreign students took admission in German universities, whereas last year this number was 82,000.

Why did Germany become popular for studies?
Most public universities in Germany do not charge tuition fees. Very low semester fees are charged from students, making studying here much cheaper than other countries. German universities are known for their excellent education and research. Researchers from all over the world come here and do research. The world’s top companies are also present in Germany, due to which the chances of getting a good job immediately after studies increases. Germany is also considered one of the safest countries in the world.
