Germany became students’ first choice for studying in Europe, overtook UK, shocking figures revealed

This is the reason why students and researchers from all over the world are coming here to study. A recent report by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) states that Germany has become the second most popular country for foreign students and researchers after America. Most of the researchers coming here are from India, China and Italy. More than 75,000 researchers from all over the world are working in Germany. This is a new record. Additionally, there are 380,000 foreign students studying in German universities. About 80 percent of foreign researchers are working in German universities, which includes about four thousand professors. The remaining 20 percent researchers are working in non-university research institutions. Most of the researchers have come to do research in Germany from India (6,700), China (5,900) and Italy (5,800).

Germany becomes Europe’s largest center for research

More than 75,000 foreign researchers are working in universities and public research institutions in Germany. In 2021, Germany overtook the UK and further strengthened its position as an attractive science destination. Only America stands ahead of Germany, where about 80 thousand researchers are working. In this way, Germany has become the second largest center for research after America. It is at number one in Europe. It also stands far ahead in terms of international students.

Most researchers from India in Germany

In the last two years, maximum number of researchers from India have gone to Germany. The number of Indian students has increased by approximately 138% in the last five years. Now about 49,000 Indian students are studying in Germany. The number of Indian students is increasing by 15% every year and constitutes 13% of the total foreign students studying in the country. Indian students go to study here because tuition fees are quite affordable even in top universities, while in some institutions students do not have to pay any tuition fees.
