New Delhi: The Congress on Friday expressed strong objection to some strong comments made by the Election Commission regarding its complaints related to the Haryana Assembly elections and alleged that the Election Commission did not give a clear answer to its points and gave itself a clean chit. The party also said in a reply letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar that if the Commission persists on some of the harsh observations made about the Congress, it will have to seek legal recourse. The Election Commission had on October 29 rejected Congress’s allegations of irregularities in the Haryana Assembly elections and said the party was raising doubts about the credibility of the overall election results as it had done in the past. .

Kharge targeted the Election Commission

In a letter sent to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Commission had made some strong observations regarding the claims of the main opposition party. It had said that such frivolous and baseless suspicions have the potential to create unrest, especially at a crucial stage like voting and counting, when the anxiety of political parties and the public is at its peak. In a reply letter sent to the Commission, Congress said that We have carefully studied your feedback on our complaints. It is no surprise that the Election Commission has given itself a clean chit. We would normally have left it. But the tone and tenor of the Commission’s response, the language used and the allegations made against the Congress compel us to react.

Questions raised on Election Commission
