Gautam Gambhir is not the only candidate for the post of coach, this veteran was also interviewed


New Delhi. There is a lot of speculation about who will be the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir’s name is leading the race for this post but apart from him/her, many other veterans are also in the race. On Tuesday, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted interviews for the post of head coach of the national team. According to the news received by News18, a former cricketer who has coached the women’s cricket team has also given an interview for this post.

Gautam Gambhir gave an interview on Tuesday to get the responsibility of the coach of Team India. This interview took place on ‘Zoom call’ in which both Gambhir and Ashok Malhotra joined online. A BCCI source told PTI, “Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. There was a round of discussion today. Another round is expected to take place tomorrow.”

Earlier it was believed that Gambhir is the only candidate who is in contention and the announcement of his/her name is just a formality which can happen in the next 48 hours. Now the news has come out that WV Raman also presented his/her detailed plan in front of the Cricket Advisory Committee and gave an interview. According to the information, this committee is also going to interview a foreign coach. his/her name has not been revealed yet.

The details of Gambhir’s conversation with CAC chairman Malhotra and his/her colleagues Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik, who both live in Mumbai, were not immediately known. The discussion is believed to have centred around Gambhir’s strategy for the next three years during which there are three ICC tournaments across different formats.

There is a meeting of the apex council on Tuesday evening and it is understood that secretary Jay Shah will inform the members about the coach selection process before the final announcement. The CAC is also interviewing some interested candidates for the post of selector from the North Zone. Former India opener Gambhir, 42, recently led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL trophy as the team’s mentor.

Current Indian coach Rahul Dravid will step down after the team’s campaign ends in the ongoing T20 World Cup being held in the USA and West Indies. After remaining unbeaten in the group league stage, the team is currently in Barbados for the Super Eight match. The team will play against Afghanistan on June 20.
