Gambhir’s troubles increase, court orders investigation into fraud case

New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has suffered a shock. Recently, a Delhi court has canceled the magistrate court’s order acquitting the coach of the Indian cricket team in a fraud case. The court of special judge Vishal Gogane, in its order dated October 29, said that the acquittal order of the magistrate court shows inadequate consideration in framing the charges against Gambhir.

The allegations against Gambhir, who was also an MP, should be further investigated as he/she “was actually in direct contact with the investors, as their brand ambassador.”

The case was filed by homebuyers against three real estate companies – Rudra Buildwell Realty, HR Infracity and UM Architectures and Contractors. Who had shown failure in giving flats in a housing project. These three companies jointly promoted and advertised a housing project called Serra Bella in 2011. Gambhir, who was the additional director of one of these companies, was also the brand ambassador of this project.

The court heard three revision petitions against the order passed by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on December 10, 2020. The matter started when homebuyers did not see any progress in the construction despite booking flats and paying money. The project did not receive approval and in 2014 the Allahabad High Court had banned any business transactions or other activity on the land.

Due to this, a case of fraud was registered against the accused. In 2020, the trial court found a preliminary case against only three individuals and two companies – Rudra Buildwell Realty and HR Infracity. In this, five other accused including Gambhir were acquitted. Subsequently, the homebuyers filed a revision petition. The special judge observed that the trial court had failed to discuss the specific evidence available in the charge sheet against the five accused who were acquitted.
