New Delhi. The news of former opening batsman Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach of the Indian team is gaining momentum at this time. Gambhir also gave an interview for this in front of CAC in Mumbai on Tuesday. Meanwhile, quoting PTI, it is being reported that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer’s international career may get a new lease of life. he/she may get a chance to make a comeback in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in July-August.

Shreyas, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title, can also be selected for the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe starting July 5, but he/she is more likely to be selected for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir, the strongest contender for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team, was the mentor of KKR in the IPL. Shreyas was dropped from the BCCI central contract along with Ishan Kishan as he/she was reluctant to play Ranji Trophy. Shreyas played the Ranji final and scored 90 runs.

The team for the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe will be announced next week. Many young players who performed well in the IPL are currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. A BCCI source said, “Shreyas is not at the NCA right now. Most of the cricketers in the NCA are those who played well in the IPL and can go to Zimbabwe.”

he/she said, “These include Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana, Nitish Reddy, Vijaykumar Visakh, Yash Dayal.” The source said, “There is a possibility that Shreyas can go for the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka. he/she scored more than 500 runs in the World Cup and his/her average is close to 50. How can he/she be left out?”
