From noise, ruckus to scuffles… complete account of the winter session of Parliament.

New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament is over. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned indefinitely. Opposition MPs protested at Vijay Chowk on Friday, the last day of the winter session of Parliament. The opposition faction remained adamant on resigning and apologizing to Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly ‘insulting’ BR Ambedkar. Opposition parties also took out a protest march from Vijay Chowk to Parliament. This protest took place a day after separate marches by opposition and ruling party MPs over the alleged insult to Ambedkar. Earlier on Thursday, there was a scuffle in the Parliament complex on the same issue of Ambedkar. BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured in this. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that BJP MPs pushed him/her to the ground, causing injury to his/her knee. A complaint was also lodged with the police from both the parties. Delhi Police also registered an FIR against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Accusations against Rahul Gandhi

Following the scuffle in Parliament on Thursday, BJP woman MP Konyak claimed that she became ‘uncomfortable’ after Rahul Gandhi allegedly shouted at her during the protest in Parliament. Konyak said in the Rajya Sabha that Gandhi had come very close to him/her, which he/she felt was ‘inappropriate’ for the leader of the opposition. he/she also demanded security from Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

How much work to do in winter session

Meanwhile, on Friday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the opposition for disrupting the winter session of Parliament. There was a decline in work due to the uproar in the House. In this session of Parliament, the productivity was 54.5% in Lok Sabha and 40% in Rajya Sabha. The Union Minister urged the Opposition to avoid similar disruptions in the upcoming Budget session.

Rijiju said that the productivity of Parliament had reduced due to disturbances on the part of the opposition. he/she said that we made a lot of efforts to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. I hope and request the Opposition not to create similar obstructions in the Budget session.

Controversy over Shah’s comment on Ambedkar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Dr. B.R. Protests started in Parliament after the remarks made on Ambedkar. Addressing the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the Home Minister had said that now there has been a fashion – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If you had chanted God’s name this much, you would have gone to heaven for seven births. This statement led to sporadic protests across the country.

From one nation, one election to the uproar over Adani issue

Before adjourning the Lok Sabha sine die, the House referred the two bills on ‘One Nation, One Election’ to the Joint Parliamentary Committee comprising 27 Lok Sabha MPs and 12 Rajya Sabha MPs. It is noteworthy that there was an uproar in both the houses regarding the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill. There was a proposal to hold elections for Lok Sabha and State Assemblies simultaneously. Earlier, there was an uproar in the House over the allegations of alleged Adani Group bribery raised by the opposition. BJP targets Congress party with claims of ‘Soros-Gandhi nexus’. The winter session started on 15 November.
