From Indira to Priyanka, South India and the Gandhi family have a special relationship

New Delhi: While leaving the Wayanad seat, Rahul Gandhi spoke very emotionally about his/her relationship with the people there. he/she said that the people of Wayanad gave him/her energy at a time when he/she was going through a difficult time. Now Priyanka Gandhi will contest the by-election on the vacant seat from there. But this is not the first time that the Gandhi family has decided to enter politics through the South. After the Emergency, when Indira Gandhi’s comeback from Rae Bareli seemed difficult, the Chikmagalur seat of Karnataka acted as a lifesaver for her political life.

Once Indira Gandhi had returned to power through the South
During that time, a safe seat was searched for her in the 1978 by-election. This seat was Karnataka’s Chikmagalur seat. The sitting MP DB Gowda was asked to vacate the seat, here Indira had to face CM Virendra Patil. In such a situation, a slogan was also searched for Indira Gandhi. Which stopped at the slogan of Congress leader Devaraj Urs … Ek Sherni Sau Langoor … Chikmagalur, Chikmagalur. Despite not meeting the decorum of language, this slogan became popular. It is said that Indira Gandhi herself campaigned for 17 to 18 hours for this by-election. The result of the election came in favor of Congress and Indira Gandhi won by 77 thousand votes and the deposit of 26 candidates standing against her was forfeited.

Congress also has a connection with Bellary seat

Congress also has an interesting connection with Bellary in the South. In 1999, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi contested her first election from Bellary seat in Karnataka. BJP fielded its dynamic leader Sushma Swaraj against her. Due to the clash between the two leaders, Bellary seat became very important in national politics, because Sushma also tried her best to win this seat. However, after defeating Sushma Swaraj, Sonia Gandhi left Bellary seat and chose Amethi.

Now the political pitch is being prepared for Priyanka Gandhi
After losing from Amethi in 2019, Rahul Gandhi also reached the Lok Sabha from Wayanad seat. Now Priyanka Gandhi’s electoral political pitch is also being prepared in South India, she will contest the by-election from Wayanad. Experts say that Congress will hope that this time too the South will not disappoint them like yesterday.
