From BRS to TMC… who has the highest income among the regional parties, know the whole story

New Delhi: Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) earned the most in 2022-23. According to the ADR report, BRS earned Rs 737.6 crore, which is 42.3% of the total earnings of regional parties. The Electoral Reforms Association (ADR) has analyzed the funding of regional political parties in its report. The report gives information about the income and expenditure of 39 out of 57 regional parties for 2022-23.Which party spent how much money?
Trinamool Congress (TMC) is the highest spender. TMC spent Rs 181.1 crore, which is 37.6% of the total expenditure. It was followed by YSRCP at Rs 79.3 crore (16.49%), BRS at Rs 57.4 crore (11.9%), DMK at Rs 52.6 crore (10.9%) and Samajwadi Party at Rs 31.4 crore (6.5%).

BRS is at the top in terms of earning, TMC is at second place
TMC’s income was second after BRS. TMC earned Rs 333.45 crore, which is 19.1% of the total income. DMK reported an income of Rs 214.3 crore, which is 12.3% of the total income. According to the report, the top five parties earned a total of Rs 1,541.3 crore, which is 88.5% of the total income of 39 regional parties. The total declared income of these parties stood at Rs 1,740.4 crore.

The Election Commission had asked for the accounts of all the parties
The Election Commission had asked political parties to submit their annual accounts by October 31, 2023. But, only 16 parties complied with the deadline. 23 parties submitted the reports late. ADR said that the audit reports of 18 regional parties were not available on the Election Commission website. These include major parties like Shiv Sena, Bodoland People’s Front, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena (UBT).

A total of 19 regional parties declared unspent income for the financial year. BRS had the highest unspent income of Rs 680.2 crore, followed by Biju Janata Dal at Rs 171 crore and DMK at Rs 161.7 crore. While 20 parties reported expenditure more than their income. Janata Dal (Secular) spent 490.4% more than its income. Donations and electoral bonds were the primary sources of income for the parties. These gave the parties Rs 1,522.46 crore, which is 87.4% of the total income.
