Srikanth raised questions on Shubman Gill becoming the vice-captain of the Indian team.

New Delhi. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is starting from 19 February. This will be the first time that Pakistan will host this tournament. However, India’s matches will be played in Dubai. India’s team for the ICC Champions Trophy has been announced. Rohit Sharma has been made the captain of the team of this tournament while Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain.

People are giving different opinions on social media on the appointment of Shubman Gill as vice-captain. Some are calling this decision right while some are saying that Hardik Pandya should be the vice-captain. In this opinion, former veteran Indian player Krishnamachari Srikkanth also gave his/her opinion and he/she has raised questions on the appointment of Shubman Gill as the vice-captain.

Srikanth said on his/her YouTube channel, ‘he/she suddenly made Gill the vice-captain. he/she has not done anything special in the last one year. Look at his/her last ten ODI innings. There is nothing special in them. What is so special in him/her that he/she should be made the vice-captain? I am surprised.

If we look at Shubman Gill’s performance in ODIs, Shubman has played 47 ODI matches and scored 2328 runs at an average of 58.0, which included 6 centuries and 13 half-centuries. However, in the last 10 ODI innings, only 342 runs have come from his/her bat.

Shubhman Gill was the vice-captain of the team in ODI and T20 last year in Sri Lanka tour. By doing this the selectors have given the message that they are looking towards the future. Hardik Pandya was also a contender for this role, but he/she was again disappointed. Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness is under question, due to which WPA lagged behind in this round.
