Former Foreign Minister and Karnataka CM SM Krishna passes away, breathed his/her last at the age of 92

New Delhi: Former External Affairs Minister and former Chief Minister of Karnataka SM Krishna died at his/her residence in Bengaluru at 2.45 am on Tuesday. he/she was 92 years old. Krishna was also a Union Minister three times. he/she served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. he/she was also the Governor of Maharashtra. This news has sent a wave of mourning across the country.early life
SM Krishna, whose full name was Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, was born on May 1, 1932 in Somanahalli village in Mandya district. he/she received his/her early education in Mysuru. he/she studied law from the Government Law College, Bengaluru. he/she was also a Fulbright Scholar. Krishna started his/her political career as an MLA from Mandya. In 1962 he/she won as an independent candidate. In 1964, he/she married Prema.

long political career

Krishna held many important positions in his/her long political career. he/she has also been a Lok Sabha member, Rajya Sabha member, Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and MLC. he/she studied at Maharaja’s College, Mysuru, Government Law College, Bengaluru, Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas, USA. As a Fulbright Scholar, he/she also studied at George Washington University, Washington DC, USA. Before joining politics, he/she was also Professor of International Law at Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya Law College, Bengaluru.

Krishna was a member of the 3rd Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 1962 to 1967. In 1965, he/she participated in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference held in New Zealand as a member of the Indian Parliamentary delegation. he/she was a member of the Fourth Lok Sabha from 1968 to 1970 and a member of the Fifth Lok Sabha from 1971 to 1972. From 1972 to 1977, he/she was a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council. During this time he/she also served as the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Parliamentary Affairs in the Government of Karnataka. In 1982, he/she was a member of the Indian delegation to the United Nations. he/she was the Union Minister of State for Industry in 1983-84 and the Union Minister of State for Finance in 1984-85.

First CM then Foreign Minister
he/she was a member of the Ninth Karnataka Legislative Assembly from 1989 to 1994 and Speaker of the Assembly from 1989 to 1992. In March 1990 he/she attended the Commonwealth Parliamentary Seminar in Westminster, UK. From 1992 to 1994, he/she was the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. he/she was a member of Rajya Sabha from April 1996 to October 1999. From October 11, 1999 to May 20, 2004, he/she served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. After this he/she became the Foreign Minister in the Union Cabinet. he/she was also the Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008.

Krishna was also associated with the World University Service. he/she loved playing tennis. he/she was also fond of designing men’s clothes and reading. his/her demise is a big loss for the country.
