Former captain Milati Raj got angry, asked who was responsible for the defeat in the World Cup

New Delhi. Former captain Mithali Raj is extremely disappointed with India’s defeat in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. he/she described India’s exit from the first round as disappointing. The former captain blamed the team’s poor performance on its failure to improve various departments of the game in the last three years. This is the first time under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur that India failed to qualify for the knockouts of an ICC tournament.

Mithali told PTI from Dubai that the reason for the team’s downfall was its failure to quickly adjust to the conditions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), along with lack of clarity in batting and poor fielding. Former Indian captain Mithali said that the defeat against Australia proved that this team has not made any improvement in the last three years.

he/she said, “If I talk about the match against Australia, it was a winnable match. We had chances but it seemed like we were following the same pattern against Australia which involved taking the match to the last overs and facing defeat. This strategy is not effective.

“I feel like I haven’t really seen any growth in this team in the last two-three years,” he/she said. I mean you always prepare to beat the best team. It seems like we are beating other teams and we are quite happy with that. Every other team in this tournament has shown growth despite limited depth, the best example of this is South Africa.

Waited for 4 years, came in place of Babar and scored a century, said – it was disappointing….

When asked about the team’s defeat against New Zealand in favorable conditions, he/she said that our players took time to adjust to the slow wickets while New Zealand’s batsmen were successful in doing so. he/she said, “The surprising thing is that it took us time to adjust to the slow pace of the wicket. Unlike the ODI World Cup, it is a small tournament. You don’t have much time to adjust to the circumstances. A player like Sophie Devine was able to score so many runs against us and she is not used to playing on slow pitches.

Mithali said that it is proving very difficult for the Indian batsmen to score runs in the middle overs and it is costing the team heavily. he/she said, “We expect the openers to perform well, we always expect big scores from Shefali (Verma). But things have changed in the last few years. If both the openers perform well then we often get stuck in the middle overs.
