New Delhi : The weather across the country has become a puzzle at this time. The deep pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal will turn into cyclonic storm ‘Fangal’ on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding Fengal. This cyclone can cause devastation in many areas with strong winds. IMD has issued orange and red alert regarding heavy rain. The impact can be seen from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala to Punjab. A decision has been taken to keep schools and colleges closed in many districts of Tamil Nadu.

Fengal storm heavy rain alert

The depression formed over South-West Bay of Bengal turned into a deep depression on Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, on November 27 it will turn into a cyclonic storm and its intensity will increase. Thereafter, it will continue to move in North-West direction towards Tamil Nadu coasts adjacent to Sri Lanka coast in the next two days. Due to this, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the coastal states. Besides, a new Western Disturbance is also likely to arrive in the Western Himalayan region from November 29.

Somewhere orange and somewhere red alert

IMD has issued orange and red alert regarding heavy rain. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from 27 to 30 November. There may be rain in Kerala and Mahe on 27th November. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema during 28-30 November. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may receive heavy rains on November 28.

Possibility of greater impact in these states

The storm may have a huge impact in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh. There may be flooding on roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas and closure of underpasses, especially in urban areas. There is also a possibility of reduced visibility due to heavy rain. Traffic may be disrupted in major cities due to waterlogging. Minor damage may occur to unpaved roads.

Schools and colleges closed in these districts of Tamil Nadu

Apart from this, there is a possibility of damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to waterlogging. The administration has taken several steps regarding the heavy rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department regarding the Fengal storm. Holiday has been declared in schools and colleges due to rain in Trichy, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu.
