Fear of EVM hacking threat… Rahul Gandhi repeated the words of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, then BJP leader replied


New Delhi : Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday reiterated Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s concern about the potential vulnerability of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to hacking. Calling EVMs a ‘black box’, Rahul warned that when institutions lack accountability, democracy becomes a sham. he/she said that in such a situation, fraudulent activities are likely to take place. Rahul Gandhi said that EVMs in India are a black box, and no one is allowed to examine them.

Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X that serious concerns are being raised about transparency in our electoral process. When institutions lack accountability, democracy becomes a sham and is prone to fraud. Earlier in a recent post on X, Elon Musk expressed his/her concern about electronic voting machines. It said that they should be abolished due to the risk of being hacked by humans or AI, even if the risk is small. Elon Musk had reacted to Puerto Rico’s primary elections, which allegedly revealed irregularities in voting.

Opposition parties have expressed concern

Opposition parties have been raising concerns over EVMs for some time now. Opposition parties were demanding 100 percent counting of VVPAT slips, which was not allowed. However, former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar strongly opposed Musk’s statement. Chandrashekhar said this is a very general statement, which means that no one can create secure digital hardware. This is wrong. Chandrashekhar argued that although Musk’s approach may be correct for the US and other countries where regular computing platforms are used to create ‘internet-connected voting machines’, it does not apply to India.

Former Union Minister rejected the statement

Chandrasekhar rejected Musk’s statement and said that Indian EVMs are custom-designed. They are secure and isolated from any network or media. They have no connectivity, no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Internet. he/she said that they are factory-programmed controllers that cannot be reprogrammed. Chandrasekhar said that electronic voting machines can be designed and made exactly the way India has done. Chandrasekhar said that Tesla CEO Elon Musk should come to India and learn something.
