Veteran actress Farida Jalal played many types of roles in her decades-long career. She was a part of commercial and art films and has played the role of mother of actors from Shahrukh Khan to Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Anil Kapoor and Govinda on the silver screen. But Farida Jalal is sad that she mostly got to play the role of mother and grandmother in her career, while actors of her age like Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri got strong roles. According to Farida, those actors played many strong characters apart from father and grandfather. Farida Jalal made her acting debut in the year 1967 with the film ‘Taqdeer’. After this, she played lead heroine in many films and supporting roles in many. However, later she got the role of mother and grandmother in most of the films.

‘Waiting for a challenging role, but…’

In an interview with our colleague ‘ETimes’, Farida Jalal said, ‘I am waiting for a challenging role where I can show my versatility. I think let’s bring another mother’s role, and a grandmother’s role for me. That’s it, everything.’

Farida Jalal further said, ‘I am sad that the makers do not think that I can do more than this. I want to do something exciting. My contemporaries got a lot to do. From late Amrish Puri to Anupam Kher, they played villain as well as comedy roles very well. They were not limited to playing only father or grandfather on screen, but unfortunately only I have been given a slot.’
