In a conversation with Faye D’Souza, Farhan Akhtar told that when he/she was young, Papa and Mummy got separated. he/she told that it was very difficult for him/her to understand what effect the divorce had on his/her marriage and relationships. The actor spoke 15 years after his/her father’s divorce and separation from wife Adhuna.

Farhan Akhtar did not want to do this with his/her children

Farhan Akhtar said, ‘It was very difficult. One of the reasons for my divorce was that when I was young, my parents got separated. They were divorced. And I know how it feels. And I kept thinking inside that I cannot do this to my children. I felt that Adhuna and I should talk openly with our children about our divorce, tell them and explain why we are taking this step. All this is not happening because of them. They have nothing to do with this. Neither have they done anything nor said anything.’

Farhan Akhtar further said, ‘This is a matter between two adults. Both of them decided that they want to do this. And that was the option. Both of us could do that. However, it was something that I will have to live with this tag for the rest of my life. Did my children deserve all this? I can never stop thinking about it. This thing comes to my mind again and again. I think it will stay with me for a lifetime. The fact is that this happened to me in childhood and this thing plays a big role in how I feel now.’
