Today the Foreign Ministry has once again clarified things on this. The neighboring country had alleged that this situation in its country has occurred due to the opening of the gates of the Farakka Barrage. The Foreign Ministry said that we had also shared data regarding this.India’s reply to Bangladesh
Speaking on Bangladesh’s allegations, India’s Foreign Ministry said that we have seen media reports of opening of the gates of Farakka Barrage, which will allow more than 11 lakh cusecs of water to flow into Ganga/Padma river in the natural flow of the river. he/she also denied Bangladesh’s allegations.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said this is a normal seasonal process caused by increased flow from heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the upstream Ganga river basin. It must be understood that Farakka is only a barrage and not a dam. Whenever the water level reaches the pond level, whatever flow comes in goes out. It is only a structure to divert 40,000 cusecs of water in the Ganga/Padma river into the Farakka canal using a system of gates on the main Ganga/Padma river carefully, while the remaining water flows into the main river in Bangladesh.

he/she further said that as per protocol, data is shared with the concerned Joint River Commission officials in Bangladesh on a regular and timely basis. The same has been done this time as well. We have seen fake videos, rumours and fear-mongering to create misconceptions among people. This must be strongly countered with facts.
