New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has intensified the campaign against spurious and adulterated medicines in the country and raids are being conducted after investigating every complaint. Adulterated and spurious medicines worth more than two crores have been seized by raiding a big gang in Kolkata. These medicines were being manufactured under the brand name of reputed companies and there are many such medicines which are widely used in everyday life. Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya met Yashpal Singh and Rakesh Sharma, two officers of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) who played an important role in this major raid, and also congratulated them for this great success.
The Union Health Minister has instructed drug inspectors of all zones in the country to take seriously any complaint that comes. Fake medicines are being seized in many parts of the country following the instructions of the Health Minister. CDSCO in Kolkata received a complaint that spurious medicines are being manufactured and stored. First one million medicines were seized and one person was arrested. After that, on going to the bottom of the matter, more was revealed. In July last month, drug inspectors raided an unlicensed warehouse and seized spurious drugs worth over two crores. One person was also arrested. After this raid, the big supply chain of spurious medicines has been broken.
The Union Health Minister held a meeting with companies manufacturing health supplements and nutraceuticals in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh and asked them to strictly follow the prescribed regulations. The CEO of FSSAI has said that if there is any kind of adulteration in the medicines, if the medicines are not found as per the prescribed standard, then the license of the company can be cancelled. Along with this, a criminal case will also be registered against the company.
