The video purportedly shows two human bodies being tied on a rotisserie and burning on coals. It is claimed that this video is of atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, in which they are shown being burnt publicly. Upon investigation it was found that this claim is fake.

What is a viral claim?

However, investigation of logical facts revealed that the video going viral was shot in October 2018 during the Halloween party held at Chimlong Ocean Kingdom Theme Park in Zhuhai, China.

How was the truth revealed?

Investigation revealed that this ‘corpse’ is not a real human body, but a dummy kept in a Halloween theme park in China. By reverse image searching the keyframes of the viral video, we found a longer video (archive here) posted on Instagram on October 31, 2018. The location of the video in this post was tagged as Hengqin, Guangdong, China. The video also shows a man dressed in a Halloween costume setting the rooster on fire.

The video also shows people wearing scary costumes and Halloween decorations, while some people are seen playfully touching what appears to be a humanoid corpse. During the investigation, several scenes from the Selinanomag video viral video match. The background decorations and setup look quite similar. Elements such as bamboo sticks and banana leaves are also present, confirming that the video is from a Halloween party held at Chimlong Ocean Kingdom in China.

We found a Chinese news report titled Sin Chew on January 14, 2020, which contained a screenshot of the video. The report said that this video was earlier reported to be from Nigeria with a false claim. However, investigation revealed that it was located in Zhuhai, China in October 2018. The same scene can be seen at 5:26 minutes in the video, viral clip matches. Chimlong Ocean Kingdom, a theme park located in Zhuhai, China, organizes various theme based events.

From our investigation so far, it becomes clear that the viral video is not only from China but it has been present on the internet since October 2018. However, we could not independently ascertain whether the video depicted actual human bodies being roasted on a rotisserie on the occasion of Halloween or whether they were merely human props specially designed to resemble human bodies. .
