Is this claim correct? No, this claim is not correct. In this picture, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is not bathing in the Ganges at Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
In the viral picture, Nehru is immersing his/her mother’s bones.
According to the information we received, this picture is in 1938, the year Nehru’s mother died.
Jawaharlal Nehru had also arrived in Kumbh of 1954 to take stock of the preparations, but we did not find any evidence that he/she took a dip in Kumbh.
How did we find out the truth? We used the image search option with the help of Google Lens on this viral picture.

In the caption of the picture, it was written that Nehru is seen immersing his/her mother’s ashes in Allahabad.
According to public records, Nehru’s mother Swaroop Rani Nehru died on 10 January 1938.
With the help of reverse search, we found an article of Open Magazine, showing that this photo was taken on 10 January 1938.
According to this, this picture was actually taken during the immersion of his/her bones in the Ganges in Allahabad after the death of the former Prime Minister’s mother.
Its caption reads: ‘Jawaharlal Nehru after immersing her mother’s ashes in Allahabad on 10 January 1938.’
Did Nehru take a dip in Kumbh?
In Sydney, South Asian and World History Associate Professor Kama Maclean printed a picture of Nehru from Kumbh of 1954 in his/her book ‘Pilgrimage and Power: The Kumbh Mela in Allahabad from 1776-1954’. In this picture published in The Leader on 21 January 1954, Nehru Paush is at the confluence on the day of Purnima.
