Fact Check: There was no mirror in Chittorgarh Fort during the time of Queen Padmavati, but even Nehru had not installed mirrors.

New Delhi: A video of a guide telling some tourists about Alauddin Khilji, Chittorgarh Fort and Rani Padmavati has been shared on social media. In the entire 5 minute video, the guide is telling many things about Chittorgarh Fort and Rajput rulers.

What is the claim?

X user Vini has posted this video and claimed that the false story of Alauddin Khilji showing Queen Padmini’s face in the mirror has been added to the story of pride of Mewar, Rajasthan. It is claimed that the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru had inspected the Chittorgarh Fort in 1955. During that time Nehru ji himself had got the glass installed.

What is the truth?

In this video of YouTube channel Indian Desi Traveller, dated May 20, 2022, it is told where Queen Padmavati was standing and from where Alauddin Khilji had seen her in the mirror.

As far as Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru’s visit to Chittorgarh Fort in 1955 is concerned, this claim is absolutely correct. Nehru Portal And wikimedia Pictures of this visit of Nehru are available on the website of Nehru. On April 6, 1955, he/she was given a grand welcome outside the fort.

When we tried to find out whether it was Nehru who had installed glass in Chittorgarh Fort? While investigating this, we found many news and articles in which the same claim was made. Actually, there was a lot of controversy over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmavat’ on Rani Padmavati. At that time there was a detailed discussion on the history of Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. This issue came up a lot in the media also. All histories began to be scrutinized and truth and lies began to be ascertained.

immortal light Wrote in one of his/her stories, ‘Experts say that when former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited Chittor in 1955, these mirrors were installed there. After this, the story regarding these mirrors was ready. These mirrors were attached to Padmini. Local guides also started telling the tourists that Alauddin Khilji had looked at Padmini in a mirror here. Not only this, the Archeology Department also got misleading information about these mirrors written on the inscription here, whereas the situation regarding the existence of mirrors in those times is also not clear.

presswire18 Times had also published the opinion of historian Professor Dr. Jamnesh Kumar Ojha. It said, ‘Not only Mewar but also Rajasthan’s leading historian Professor Dr. Jamnesh Kumar Ojha said that the incident of showing Queen Padmini to Mughal Emperor Alauddin Khilji through glass and water is completely imaginary. There is no such description in history. This incident is completely false. Can’t any citizen of Mewar, let alone the brave warrior Rana Ratan Singh of Mewar, show his/her wife to anyone else like this?

immortal light In another news, he/she said, ‘Historians say that when Raja Ratan Singh ruled, mirrors did not exist. In such a situation, questions arise about showing glimpses through mirrors. Malik Mohammad Jayasi had written Padmavat, but it was written 237 years after the attack of Alauddin Khilji.

all colors The Imperial Gazette of India has been cited in this article published on. The article states, ‘According to the Imperial Gazette of India published in 1909, Jayasi himself had written at the end of his/her epic, written over a period of about a decade, that ‘Padmavat’ is merely a fictional story. ‘

However, history researcher and former principal of Chittor PG College Dr. AL Jain It is said that those who dismiss Padmini’s history as mere poetry of Mohammad Malik Jayasi are not right. If this was mere imagination, then all the characters in Joyce’s story would not have been the same as other historians believe. Mewar historian Ramvallabh Somani has mentioned in his/her book that during the excavation of the Indian Archaeological Department, ashes and bones were found on the citadel.

So were there really no mirrors in the era of Queen Padmavati? We have investigation Then it came to light that the mirror was invented in 1835 while Queen Padmavati had performed Jauhar with 16,000 Kshatriya women on August 26, 1303.

conclusion

The mirrors of early times were not of such high quality that the face could be seen clearly. At that time only a blurry picture could be seen in those mirrors. But according to beliefs, Queen Padmavati stood in a fort whose shadow was formed on the water of the pond and that shadow appeared in the mirrors on the arches of another fort which was seen by Alauddin Khilji. The mirror showed the reflection made in the water so clearly that Alauddin saw the beauty of Queen Padmavati completely enhanced.

Suppose that Alauddin saw Padmavati through any kind of glass arrangement about 500 years before the invention of the mirror, can it be assumed that the quality of that glass was of such a high level? As far as Jawaharlal Nehru’s visit to Chittorgarh Fort in 1955 is concerned, it is absolutely correct. But there is no proof that he/she had installed mirrors. Those who claim that mirrors were installed during Nehru’s visit say that they were installed by ASI. When the Karni Sena broke these glasses, it had said that the ASI had got the glasses installed, but did not get them removed after Nehru’s return. Therefore, in our investigation the claims were found to be half true and half false.
