Fact Check: Monkey visits Lucknow’s Buddheshwar Mahadev Temple, not Ayodhya’s Ram Temple

What is the claim?

A Facebook user named Ishwar Sahu has claimed in his/her post that the monkey comes from across the river every day to have darshan of Lord Shri Ram in Ayodhya. Dogs bark at him/her, but he/she fearlessly enters the temple and prostrates before the idol of the Lord.

What is the truth?

When we investigated the claim, we found him/her saying in the video itself, ‘he/she comes to Baba Buddheshwar Dham every day.’ During investigation we came across another Facebook post. User Boie Ramana posted this video on January 7, 2023 and wrote in English that in Ayodhya, this monkey crosses the river every day to see Lord Shri Ramchandra, worships and bows his/her head with reverence. During this time, if the dog bothers him/her, he/she chases it away.

As our investigation progressed, we started getting videos and news from media organizations. presswire18 Times had also told the entire story of this monkey in detail on December 31, 2022. Actually, the claim of the monkey coming to the temple and bowing its head is absolutely true, but this scene is not in the Prabhu Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya but in the Buddheshwar Mahadev temple in Lucknow. The priests of the temple had then told that for the last two months, this monkey, like the devotees, comes to the temple and first bows before the idol of Lord Parashuram and then bows his/her head before Buddhaeshwar Mahadev. The monkey also accepts prasad from the temple and then returns. The priests told that this is the daily routine of the monkeys.

The claim of the monkey coming and paying obeisance in the temple is absolutely correct, but this happens not in the Lord Shri Ram temple of Ayodhya but in the Baba Budheshwar Mahadev temple of Lucknow. The claim that the video is from Ayodhya instead of Lucknow is misleading.
