Fact Check: Madrasa competition in Bangladesh shared as speech of militant leader, viral claim turns out to be misleading


New Delhi: Amidst the increasing violence in Bangladesh, a video is being shared widely on social media. In this video, a person with his/her face covered is seen giving a speech in Arabic language and next to him/her two people wearing black clothes with their faces covered are standing like guards with weapons. While sharing this video, users are claiming that the violence and fundamentalism which was stopped during the rule of Awami League in Bangladesh is now increasing again under the rule of Yunus.

While sharing this video on social media, a Facebook user Sajeeb Wazed wrote – A mysterious militant leader among armed operatives is turning people towards hatred and fanaticism. Violence and fundamentalism, which had stopped during the Awami League rule, are now on the rise again under Yunus’ rule.

Along with this, an ex-user named @bdperspectives also shared this video and wrote – Yunus is making Bangladesh a safe haven for armed jihad.

What was found in the investigation?

When Sajjag’s team investigated this video, the team found many other X-posts. In which the same claims were made.

However, when Sajjag’s team took the investigation further and extracted the keyframes of the viral video and did a reverse image search, the video turned out to be a clip of a stage show. The viral video also got an X post claiming to be a stage clip.

According to the user, in a video from Jessore, 13-14 year old boys were dressed like Hamas fighters in the “Become as you wish” program during the sports competition of Jamia Islamia Madrasa. he/she was carrying fake weapons made of cardboard wrapped with black tape and playing an audio speech. The video was shared by a user who described it as a stage show. he/she claimed that it was a sports competition of Jamia Islamia Madrasa.

When I started searching for reports related to this matter on Google, I found some reports on Google. ntvbd According to the report, the viral video was of students participating in the annual sports and cultural competition of a madrassa. Madrasa principal Mufti Lutfur Rehman Farooqui said that all this was not done with any evil intention.

OC Abdur Razak of Yashore Kotwali police station said that I have seen the video. This is part of a competition for madrassa students. he/she had used dummy weapons as part of the act. Several other media reports were also written with the same claim. The viral video was taken during a competition in a school.

After that Sajjag’s team also found a video related to this. In which it can be seen that the viral video is actually from a madrassa and the weapons are fake.

conclusion: It was claimed on social media that a militant leader in Bangladesh is threatening with armed commanders. However, Sajjak’s investigation found this claim to be false. This is a video of a stage show of a madrassa.
