New Delhi: For how many days does ghee not spoil? When I started looking for the answer to this question, I found answers from many sources on the internet. Generally the answers received are that if not stored properly, it can spoil even within three months and if stored properly, it will remain pure for three years. But it has been claimed on social media that ghee has not spoiled for more than 600 years. A video has been shared on social media in which only pitchers are seen in a room. It is being claimed that these pitchers are filled with ghee which is up to 600 years old. Let us know how much strength is there in this claim.

X user Sumanth has posted a video and wrote, ‘Amazing store of six hundred years old cow’s ghee.’

Similar claims have been made in many other social media posts also.

What is the truth?

When we reverse image searched the screenshot of X user Sumanth’s video, we found videos and articles related to the claim. It was revealed that the video posted in the X post was not complete but a small clip. We found his/her full video on YouTube. In this video, ghee is being explained in detail. Pitchers filled with ghee have been kept in three-four rooms of the temple. Here, when their wishes are fulfilled, devotees make offerings of ghee only. The temple administration said that the practice of offering ghee has been going on here for more than 600 years. Two lights on the left and right side of the idol of Mahadev burn day and night. Every day 20 to 25 kg of ghee is burnt in these two lights. But every day more than 25 kg of ghee comes in the offerings received from the devotees, hence such a huge store has been built.
