Fact Check: Hindu farmer’s crop was not burnt in Bangladesh, the video going viral on social media is fake


New Delhi: A video is viral on social media these days. The video claims that it is from Bangladesh where a Hindu farmer’s crop was burnt. In the 2 minute 17 second video, the farmer can also be seen crying. While narrating his/her own past, he/she is telling about the burning of crops. Later on investigation this video was found to be fake.

What is the claim in the viral video?

In the 2 minute 17 second video, it has been claimed that the crop of a Hindu farmer was deliberately burnt by Muslims in Bangladesh.
In the video, the crying farmer narrates his/her ordeal and says, ‘Around 3:30 in the morning, I saw that the field was on fire. It seemed as if the crops had been set on fire using petrol.

BOOM found that the viral claim is false. The farmer seen in the video is not from Hindu but from Muslim community. According to media reports, the name of the victim farmer is Naseem Mian. While sharing the video on X, right-wing user Jitendra Pratap Singh claimed that Muslims in Bangladesh are destroying the crops of Hindus by burning them.

On searching Bengali keywords related to this incident of burning of crops by pouring petrol in Bangladesh, we found The News 24 A report was received on 6 December 2024. A picture similar to the viral video can be seen in this report.

According to the report, farmer Naseem Mian had cultivated paddy in one and a half bigha land taken on lease in Piarpur village in Kushtia, Bangladesh. he/she had harvested the paddy and left it in the field to dry. Meanwhile, on the night of 4th December, some miscreants set fire to the paddy crop kept in Naseem Mian’s field. Petrol bottles were also found at the spot. In reference to the accused, Naseem was quoted as saying in the report that he/she had no enemies and had scolded some local boys for doing mischief in the paddy fields. he/she may have done so. In the report, quoting the Kushtia police who reached the spot, it has also been said that the matter will be investigated.
