Fact Check: Did the sadhus give intoxicants to the girl in Mahakumbh? Know the truth of viral claim

New Delhi: You must have seen a lot of stories of meeting and separation in the Kumbh Mela in films. In the crowd of lakhs of people, some people often get separated from their loved ones. Some such news are also coming from the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where someone got separated from his/her loved ones but was found later. To save the devotees from similar situation in Mahakumbh, a lost and found center has been set up by the government. However, meanwhile, some such news are also being spread on social media, which have nothing to do with the truth. One such news is about a little girl on social media, about which a false claim is being made. Actually, it is being said about a small girl found in Mahakumbh that the sadhus got her intoxicated. When the Vigilant team investigated this claim, it was found that this news is false and the truth of the matter is something else.

What is the claim on social media?

While sharing the video related to this girl on a YouTube channel, the X (Twitter) handle named Advocate Nazneen Akhtar has written, ‘Sadhus created a big scandal by intoxicating a girl in Mahakumbh, watch the full video. By the way, I did not understand whether these saints and sages have come to Mahakumbh to earn virtue or to commit sin.

What is the truth of this claim?

Since this matter is related to Mahakumbh, to know the truth of this claim being made about the girl, we first searched the X handles of the officials associated with the fair. During investigation, we found a tweet by IPS officer Vaibhav Krishna, DIG of Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. In his/her tweet, Vaibhav Krishna said that no such incident has happened with the girl.
