New Delhi: Mahakumbh 2025… is a unique confluence of faith, tradition and technology. More than 40 crore devotees are expected to attend this Mahakumbh, which will run till 26th February in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, about 3.5 crore devotees took a dip in the Ganga in the first Shahi Snan itself. Amidst the noise of Mahakumbh, some fake news is also spreading rapidly on social media. One such news is regarding the tweet of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. A screen shot of an X (Twitter) handle in the name of Priyanka Gandhi is going viral on social media. Priyanka Gandhi’s picture is posted on this handle and objectionable tweet has been made regarding Mahakumbh. It is being claimed that Priyanka Gandhi’s mother is a foreigner, that is why she has tweeted this. During investigation by the Vigilant team, this tweet was found to be false.

What is the claim on social media?

This screen shot was shared on January 16 with the handle Subhash Wadhwa on X. In the screen shot, there is a profile named Priyanka Gandhi INC, which has tweeted, ‘India is a country of fools where the government spends crores not on drinking water of the people but on the royal bath of hypocrites and hypocrites.’

In the post with this screen shot, Subhash Wadhwa has written, ‘See Priyanka Vadra’s tweet on Kumbh Mela. Chanakya had rightly said that a child born from a foreigner’s womb cannot be a patriot. When the screen shot of this post which was going viral on social media was searched with the help of Google Lens, it was found that this screen shot had gone viral many times before. Not only this, this screen shot was also posted on 17 December 2024 from the same handle named Manoj Srivastava from which it was posted on 16 January. See that tweet-

Now it was the turn to investigate the content written in this tweet. In the screen shot this handle is with the name Priyanka Gandhi INC. When this account was searched on X, no handle with this name was found. Official X handle of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Namely, where no such tweet was found regarding Mahakumbh.

On January 13, 2025, Priyanka Gandhi had tweeted from her same X handle and wished the countrymen a happy Mahakumbh. Priyanka wrote in her tweet, ‘Hearty congratulations and best wishes on Paush Purnima, the sacred festival of public faith and immense devotion. The holy Ganga bath and Mahakumbh is starting from today in Tirtharaj Prayag. Crores of devotees will take a dip in the nectar of Mother Ganga. Mahakumbh is a celebration of humanity linked to our thousands of years old faith, religious culture and spiritual tradition.
