It is being claimed on social media that the Government of India has increased the retirement age of Central Government employees to 62 years. During investigation this claim has been found to be fake. The Government of India has not increased the retirement age of Central Government employees to 62 years. The Press Information Bureau of the Government of India has clarified that the Government has not taken any such decision to increase the retirement age of Central Government employees. Furthermore, in August 2023, the government confirmed in the Lok Sabha that no proposal to change the retirement age of central government employees is under consideration. Therefore, the claim made in the post is false.

How did you know the claim is fake?
To verify the veracity of the viral claim, keywords related to it were searched. Neither was any credible report found to suggest that the Government of India has increased the retirement age of Central Government employees to 62 years nor that the Union Cabinet has recently approved increasing the retirement age of Central Government employees. It also stated that the maximum retirement age should not exceed 60 years and there should be a complete ban on extension of service beyond the retirement age, except for medical and scientific specialists, who may be extended up to the age of 62 years on a case-to-case basis.
