Fact Check: Are fake eggs being sold in Pakistan? Know the truth of the viral picture

New Delhi: Identifying fake videos and pictures going viral on social media is a big challenge in today’s times. Without knowing the truth about false and scripted videos, people share them on their social media handles and sometimes this leads to very serious consequences. In a similar picture, it is being claimed that fake eggs are being sold in Joharabad, Pakistan. The Vigilant team investigated this picture and found out that there is no truth in this claim.

What is the claim on social media?

This picture was shared on Facebook from an account named ‘Prince of Joharabad’ on December 15. In the picture, hands of some people are seen preparing eggs. Along with this, things that look like eggs are also kept on the table. The post claims that after fake milk, now fake eggs are being sold here.

Posting this picture, it is written, ‘After fake milk, there is abundance of fake eggs in Joharabad. Fake eggs: Health hazard and main cause of cancer. Nowadays, fake eggs are being manufactured and sold on a large scale in the markets of Pakistan. These eggs are made of chemicals and dangerous artificial materials instead of natural eggs of chickens. What is the truth of the picture?

To find out the authenticity of this picture, first of all we searched it on Google reverse image. In the search results, we found a tweet from the X (Twitter) handle named MAVERICK X on May 29, 2024. This tweet contains the same video, whose picture has been shared by a Facebook page named ‘Prince of Joharabad’.

Even in the investigation, one thing became clear that the picture which was shared and said that fake eggs are being made and sold in Pakistan, is quite old. Now it was the turn to claim that fake eggs were made. To know the truth of this claim, we searched on Google with related keywords. During the search, we found a link dated April 11, 2017 published on Sohu.com website.

In this link it is told that the video which is being shared in the name of fake eggs, is actually toys which are being prepared in a factory for the purpose of playing for children.
