Eviction notice to former Lok Sabha MPs, order to vacate government accommodation

New Delhi : More than 200 former MPs of Lok Sabha have been sent notices to vacate government accommodation. These former MPs living in Lutyens Zone of Delhi have been asked to vacate their bungalows as soon as possible. This is being done so that new MPs can get their houses soon. According to the rules, former MPs have to vacate government accommodation within a month of the dissolution of the Lok Sabha.

“Since the deadline has expired, notices have been issued. If the former MPs do not vacate the houses, the eviction process will be initiated and teams will be sent to their homes,” an official told our affiliate Times of India. The Lok Sabha House Committee allots houses to MPs, while the Directorate of Estates under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs allots bungalows to ministers. Sources said no bungalows have been allotted to the new ministers yet.

It is a rule that former MPs should vacate their government accommodation within a month of the dissolution of the Lok Sabha. But many times it happens that former MPs do not vacate the house on time. Due to this, new MPs have to face problems. New MPs are not able to find a place to stay in Delhi and they have to stay in hotels or guest houses.

The government wants the new MPs to get government accommodation as soon as possible so that they can carry out their work smoothly. Therefore, notices have been issued to former MPs asking them to vacate the house as soon as possible. If the former MPs do not vacate the house on time, the government can take action against them.
