New Delhi: Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet each other in Kazan, Russia on Wednesday. The two will meet during the BRICS summit. Everyone’s eyes are on this formal meeting to be held between the top leaders of the two countries. The meeting follows an agreement between the two countries on patrolling arrangements on the LAC following the border standoff that began in 2020. Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri has confirmed the meeting and said that a joint statement will also be issued after the meeting.Consensus reached between the two countries
This comes five years after Modi hosted Xi for a bilateral summit in Tamil Nadu in 2019. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said on Monday that with the agreement both the countries have returned to the 2020 situation and the process of disengagement between the two countries has been completed. Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri confirmed the meeting following comments from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing views the development positively and will work with India to implement the solution reached by both sides.

Misri said the agreement would restore the 2020 status quo with respect to patrolling and grazing activities in the areas under discussion. he/she said that this has to be implemented on the ground and India will strive for such a system that there will be no border skirmishes of any kind. he/she also said that the new agreement focused on outstanding issues that had come up over the years.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri said that we now have to focus on separation. We will talk about the withdrawal of troops and their return to their bases at the appropriate time. India on Monday said the two sides have reached an agreement on patrolling arrangements along the LAC, ending the standoff and resolving issues that had emerged since the standoff began in 2020.

The process also came from Beijing
In its first reaction, Beijing said China and India have maintained close communication on border-related issues through diplomatic and military channels. At present, the two sides have resolved relevant issues, which China evaluated positively, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, according to an English translation of the remarks. In the next step, China will work with India to implement the above solutions.
