England on course for a big win in Anderson’s farewell Test, WI at risk of innings defeat


New Delhi. The West Indies team on the England tour is facing the threat of an innings defeat in the first Test match itself. In the Test match being played at Lord’s, the visiting Windies team lost 6 wickets for a score of 79 runs in the second innings. Windies still have to score 171 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Which seems difficult. At the end of the second day’s play, Joshua de Silva returned unbeaten on 8 runs. Windies lost their sixth wicket on the fifth ball of the last over of the day. Debutant Gus Atkinson gave a big blow to the Caribbean team by getting Jason Holder caught by Ollie Pope. Holder returned to the pavilion after scoring 20 runs off 59 balls.

England scored 371 runs in the first innings. In response, the Windies (ENG vs WI) team collapsed for 121 runs. For the host England, opener Jack Crowley scored the highest 76 runs in the first innings while Joe Root was dismissed after scoring 68 runs. Ollie Pope contributed 57 runs while Harry Brook was dismissed after scoring 55 runs. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith played an innings of 70 runs in 119 balls. Chris Woakes scored 23 runs. For the Windies, Jaden Sills took the maximum 4 wickets in the first innings while Jason Holder and Gudakesh Moti took two wickets each.

In the first innings, 3 batsmen from Windies were out on zero while Michael Lewis was the highest scorer with 27 runs. Ellis Athanase was out after scoring 23 runs while Kaven Hodge contributed 24 runs. Debutant Gus Atkinson took 7 wickets for England. Anderson, Woakes and Stokes took one wicket each.
