Engineering, Management or Computer Science…what are the most popular courses to study in America?

International Students in US: Students from all over the world go to study in America’s top universities. The number of foreign students in the US is more than 11 lakh. India is at the top in terms of foreign students, where most of the students are pursuing degrees in American institutions. More than three lakh Indian students are studying in America. After India, come countries like China and South Korea. America has long been a popular country among Indians for studying abroad.
However, now the question arises that which subject are the foreign students studying in America. This question is answered in the Open Doors 2024 report. There is a competition among foreign students in America to study courses related to the tech industry. According to the report, 56% of the foreign students studying here studied fields related to STEM i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in the academic year 2023-24. After this comes the number of business related courses.

Which course is popular among foreign students at undergraduate level?

Business and management courses are the most popular among foreign students at the undergraduate level in America. 18% foreign students have taken admission in these courses. After this comes Maths and Computer Science, the number of students studying which is 17%. The distance between the two is very less. According to the report of Open Doors 2024, maximum admissions are taking place in these two fields only. After these, 12% students are taking admission in Engineering, 11% in Social Science and 7% in Physical and Life Science.

Which courses are popular at postgraduate level?

In the academic year 2023-24, there was more inclination towards STEM courses among the students doing postgraduation in America. According to the Open Doors 2024 report, Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science have been the most popular courses. Maximum 29% students have taken admission in Maths and Computer Science. After this, 21% students are studying in engineering. Only 12% students take admission in Business and Management, 9% in Physical and Life Sciences and only 7% in Social Sciences. This field is known for its innovation.
