ENG vs NZ: Kane Williamson continues to shine, completes 9000 runs, still team in trouble

New DelhiKane Williamson scored his/her second half-century in the first Test match being played against England and managed to complete 9,000 runs on Saturday but England continued to dominate New Zealand on the third day of the first Test. Williamson scored 61 runs in the second innings after scoring 93 runs in the first innings. The New Zealand team eliminated England’s first innings lead of 151 runs during the day, but Williamson was one of the five batsmen to be dismissed before that.

Till stumps, New Zealand’s score was 155 runs for six wickets, due to which the team’s lead was only four runs and now only the bowlers have to bat. Daryl Mitchell was playing with 31 runs and Nathan Smith was playing with one run. For England, Bryden Carse took three wickets for 22 runs, taking his/her total to seven wickets in the match. England dominated on Saturday morning by batting according to the ‘baseball’ principle and took a good lead by scoring 499 runs, surpassing New Zealand’s first innings score of 348 runs.

Harry Brook scored 171 runs while playing 132 runs and made a partnership of 159 runs with Ben Stokes. Stokes took the night’s score of 37 runs to 80 runs. Gus Atkinson scored 48 runs in 26 balls and Carse scored 33 runs in 24 balls with three spectacular sixes. England added 180 runs in 33 overs. Brook scored his/her seventh century and made the third best score in the Test. Stokes scored his/her 35th half-century in 105 balls and then scored the next 30 runs in 41 balls.

New Zealand, who came to bat in the second innings, quickly lost the wickets of both its openers Tom Latham (01) and Devon Conway (08) while there were 23 runs on the board. Rachin Ravindra (24) also got out after playing a bad shot like in the first innings. But Williamson set an example by batting patiently.

Kars’ short ball sent Ravindra to the pavilion. When Williamson reached 26 runs, he/she completed 9,000 runs in the Test. Then he/she completed his/her half-century in 74 balls when the score was 117 runs for three wickets. Chris Woakes ended Williamson’s innings and New Zealand’s score was 133 runs for four wickets. Wicketkeeper Tom Blundell was also out on the next ball. Due to this the team was still lagging behind England by 18 runs. Mitchell and Phillips ended England’s lead in the 45th over. Phillips was out before the stumps. New Zealand’s score is currently 155 for 6 wickets. he/she will have to score a big score for England to win. Right now they have a lead of only 4 runs.
