Emergency retaliated on the chanting of Constitution, after the Speaker, the President also scratched the wounds of Congress

New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu mentioned the Emergency period while addressing the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in Parliament House on Thursday. As soon as the Emergency was mentioned, all the MPs of the ruling party including the Prime Minister looked very happy. At the same time, the opposition camp, especially the Congress MPs, were seen getting angry. The President was welcomed by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. On this occasion, an officer was holding a scepter (sengool) in his/her hand. The President addressed the joint meeting of both the Houses of Parliament after the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha and the formation of a new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The President was given a guard of honour in the courtyard of the Parliament House and Dhankhar, Modi, Birla and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju took him/her to the Lok Sabha chamber.

Highlights of President Draupadi Murmu’s speech-:

‘India is becoming a big power in IT and health sectors’
The government is also engaged in strengthening the public sector. Today, the IT and health sectors are becoming a major force. Employment and self-employment opportunities are being found in these sectors. Agro-based industries are being expanded in villages. The government is creating a large network of farmers’ producer associations. The biggest problem of small farmers is related to storage. Therefore, my government has started working on the world’s largest storage scheme.

‘Indian Government is trying to increase the income of farmers’
From the day my government started, an amount of Rs 20 thousand crore has been provided to the farmers. Today’s India is moving ahead keeping in mind its current needs. We are making policies to increase the income of farmers. For example, India is making great efforts to end its dependence on other countries for pulses and oilseeds.

‘India dominates the public transport sector’
India is working towards making its public transport the best in the world. The development of infrastructure shows India’s plans to change in this direction. More than 3 lakh 80 thousand kilometers of roads have been built in the villages. Today, a network of national highways is being laid in India. The speed of building national highways has doubled. My government has started a feasibility study for bullet trains in eastern and northern India.

‘Government’s special focus on North East’
My government has increased the allocation for the North-East by 10 times. Development work is being carried forward in every sector in the North-East. A semi-conductor plant is being built in Assam at a cost of Rs 27 thousand crores. My government is continuously working for permanent peace in the North-East. Many old disputes have been resolved in the last 10 years. The work of removing Afsa in a phased manner by carrying out rapid development in the disturbed areas of the North East is also underway. New dimensions of development are being created in every region of the country.

In 10 years, the standard of living of 25 crore poor people was raised
In my government’s schemes, the poor, youth, women power and farmers of the country are being given prime importance. Only then can the country develop. That is why these four pillars are being given the highest priority in my government’s schemes. Our effort is to provide them the benefits of every government scheme.

In the last 10 years, 25 crore people have come out of poverty. This includes people from every region, SC-ST. This change is especially understandable in tribal society. A scheme of Rs 20 thousand crore is being made for the most backward tribal groups. My government is making indigenous assistive devices for Divyang brothers and sisters. This resolution to serve the deprived is true social justice.

Ration scheme removed poverty
Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar believed that the progress of any society depends on the progress of the previous section. In the last 10 years, the basis of the achievements and development of the nation has been the empowerment of the poor. For the first time, my government made the poor feel that the government is in their service. In the difficult times of Corona, the government started the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana to provide free ration to 80 crore people. This scheme is also benefiting those families who have come out of poverty so that they do not go back to poverty.

People benefited a lot from Ayushman Yojana
My government is providing the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana to 55 crore beneficiaries. The work of opening 25 thousand Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country is also going on rapidly. Now all the elderly people above 70 years of age will also get the benefit of free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Youth exempted from certificate attestation
Earlier, the youth had to run around to get their certificates attested, now the youth are self-attesting. The government has abolished interviews from Group C and Group D recruitments. Earlier, students who studied only in Indian languages were treated unfairly. My government has taken steps to remove this injustice by implementing the National Education Policy.

Be it government recruitment or exams, listen-listen.. it is not right that exams should be interrupted for any reason. Purity and transparency is very important in these. My government is committed to ensure strict punishment to the culprits by conducting a fair investigation of the recent paper leak incidents in some exams. Honorable members, it is the constant effort of the government that the youth of the country get a fair opportunity to showcase their talent. The government is working towards building a digital university. Due to these efforts, India has become the third largest startup system in the world today.

Chandrayaan was also mentioned in the President’s speech
We should be proud if our scientists successfully land on the south pole of the moon. We should be proud if India becomes the world’s fastest growing economy. We should be proud if India completes such a big election without much violence and chaos. The people of India have always expressed full faith in democracy. To maintain a healthy democracy, we have to preserve this faith. We also have to protect it. We have to remember that hurting the faith in democratic institutions will be like cutting the very branch on which we all are sitting.

President Draupadi Murmu recalled the period of emergency
In the coming few months, India is going to complete 75 years as a republic. The Constitution of India has stood the test of every challenge in the past decades. Even when the Constitution was being made, there were forces in the world that wished for India’s failure. Even after the Constitution was implemented in the country, there were many attacks on the Constitution. Today is 27 June. The Emergency imposed on 25 June 1975 was the biggest and darkest chapter of direct attack on the Constitution. There was an uproar in the whole country then. But the country showed victory over such unconstitutional forces. Because the traditions of the Republic have been at the core of India. My government also does not consider the Constitution of India as just a medium of governance, but we are making efforts to make our Constitution a part of public consciousness.
