Emergency: Kangana Ranaut’s film will be released after Punjab elections, makers are waiting for ‘quiet time’


There was a lot of uproar recently over the release of Kangana Ranaut’s political-drama ‘Emergency’. This film was earlier scheduled to release on 6th September. But due to opposition from Sikh organizations, the issue reached the Censor Board and the High Court. Now the makers of the film are ready to make cuts in the film as per the suggestions of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The latest information is that ‘Emergency’ is now set to be released in Punjab after the elections. According to the report of ‘India Today Digital’, the makers of ‘Emergency’ are planning to release the film after the elections. Apart from being the lead actress of this film, Kangana Ranaut is also its director and co-producer. Kangana Ranaut has played the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.

Waiting for calm time for the release of ‘Emergency’

The report quoted a source associated with the production as saying, ‘After agreeing to all the conditions of the Censor Board, it will be released after the Punjab elections. This film is close to the hearts of all of us and the audience must watch this film. So, after a lot of deliberations and in order not to hurt anyone’s sentiments, the entire team decided that its release date will be decided after the elections are over. For now, it is the best decision to release the film in a calmer time.

The story of the Emergency era, Censor Board has imposed 13 cuts

Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ narrates the political events of the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. The film has been in the news ever since its trailer was released. Sikh organizations alleged that the community has been portrayed in a wrong light in the film. The Censor Board has reportedly made 13 cuts in the film.

Politics was discussed during cross-examination in the High Court

During cross-examination in the High Court, the lawyer of the production company G-Studios had said that the Censor Board was deliberately not giving certificate to the film. he/she also said that the director and lead actress of the film are MPs and the ruling party does not want the film to send a wrong message to a particular community before the elections. Commenting on this, the court had also asked the lawyer whether you are trying to say that the party is not allowing its own member’s film to be released.

Kangana Ranaut bought a luxury car worth Rs 3 crore, said that due to ’emergency’ there was loss, had to sell the bungalow!
However, the makers have still not announced the release date of ‘Emergency’. But it has definitely been made clear that his/her eyes are on the political developments of the country and the election calendar.
