‘Emergency’ gave Kangana the biggest opening in 5 years, but she was breathless! Even Rasha’s ‘Azad’ didn’t work its magic

Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ was released in theaters after being in controversies for a long time, but on the opening day the film proved to be breathless. The film hit theaters across the country on Friday. However, it was not screened in theaters in Punjab due to SGPC’s protest. This film has done a business of less than Rs 2.50 crore on the opening day. Yes, this is definitely Kangana’s biggest opening in the last 5 years. On the other hand, Rasha Thadani, Aman Devgan and Ajay Devgan’s ‘Azad’, which was released along with ‘Emergency’, has also not been able to create magic on the first day. The earning of this film was less than Rs 2 crore. Kangana Ranaut has also directed ‘Emergency’. It is built on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The budget of the film is said to be Rs 25 crore. Critics have praised the film and described Kangana’s acting as excellent. But despite National Cinema Lover’s Day on Friday (tickets priced at Rs 99), only 10-13% of the audience was seen in the morning and afternoon shows of the film. This number increased to 36% in evening and night shows.

‘Emergency’ movie box office collection

According to the report of sacnilk, ‘Emergency’ has made a net collection of Rs 2.35 crore in the country on the opening day. This earning of the film is certainly very low. But still, after the pandemic, Kangana has got the biggest opening in the last 5 years. Kangana’s previous film ‘Tejas’ had earned Rs 1.25 crore on the opening day in 2023.

Kangana’s biggest opening in the last five years

Kangana Ranaut’s film career has been yearning for a big hit since 2015. Since then, 10 of his/her films have been released in theatres, out of which ‘Manikarnika’ proved to be average and the remaining 9 were flops. Before ‘Tejas’, his/her ‘Dhaakad’, released in 2022, had earned Rs 1.20 crore at the box office on the first day. Before that, ‘Thalaivi’, the biopic on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, had done a business of Rs 1.46 crore on the opening day in 2021. ‘Panga’, released in the year 2020, had earned Rs 2.70 crore on the first day.

‘Azad’ movie collection day 1

On the other hand, Aman Devgan and Rasha Thadani’s debut film ‘Azad’ has also failed to impress the audience on the first day. It has made a net collection of Rs 1.50 crore at the box office on the opening day. In the shows of this film made under the direction of Abhishek Kapoor, on an average, only 15% of the audience was seen in the seats on Friday.

Now the weekend trusts ‘Emergency’ and ‘Azad’

The future of both the films ‘Azad’ and ‘Emergency’ completely depends on word of mouth. In future, if the audience gets appreciation from the film, then their luck will shine. But if this does not happen, then Bollywood will face two more setbacks after ‘Fateh’ in the first month of 2025. Friday was National Cinema Lover’s Day, so both the films had a good chance of earning and pleasing the audience. But here both have failed. Now the weekend is ahead.
