Elon Musk ‘ready to serve’ after Donald Trump hints at Cabinet position for Tesla CEO

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on Tuesday expressed his/her willingness to serve after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump indicated he/she would consider putting him/her in a Cabinet or advisory position if he/she wins.

“I am ready to serve,” Musk posted on his/her X platform. The post comes after Trump in an interview to Reuters in which he/she said Musk would be welcome to be part of the US administration if the Republican candidate wins the US presidential election in November.

In an interview with the news agency, Trump said that if he/she returns to the White House, he/she would like to offer Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, a position as an adviser to the head of the US administration or a cabinet member if the entrepreneur is ready to engage in such activities.

Asked if he/she would consider Musk for an advisory role or a Cabinet job, Trump told Reuters he/she would consider Musk for such a position “if he/she was willing to do it,”

Trump also told Reuters that if he/she was re-elected US president, he/she would consider eliminating the US$7,500 tax credit for electric vehicle purchases.

“Tax credits and tax incentives are generally not a very good thing,” Trump told the news agency.

Last month, Musk, the owner of social media platform X, endorsed Trump’s candidacy after the former president was injured in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

Following the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, Musk supported him/her in his/her election campaign and earlier this month he/she also interviewed the former US President on X channel.

The interview claimed that Musk was subjected to a massive DDoS attack, garnering over a billion views.

Following the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, Trump’s account was permanently suspended by Twitter (now X) under its previous ownership. However, under Musk’s ownership, the account was reinstated.

Musk, who also owns SpaceX and Tesla, has pledged USD 45 million per month to a new political action committee supporting Trump, reports the Wall Street Journal. The America PAC will focus primarily on voter outreach and registration efforts to counter the traditionally strong campaigns of the Democrats. The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5.

Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee after Joe Biden withdrew from the race on June 21 after a debate with Trump in June.
