History of Chinar Corps

This 15 Corps, which was a part of the British Indian Army before independence, was formed in 1916 during the First World War. It was disintegrated in 1918. Then this corps was formed again in 1942 during the Second World War for the Burma Operation. After returning home in 1947, it was disbanded in Karachi. However, after the independence of the country, in 1948, it got a place as a part of the Indian Army. It was formed by naming it Jammu Kashmir Force Headquarters. Till 1955, this corps was known by different names, then it got its final name in Udhampur. After Operation Vijay, Headquarters 15 Corps was made fully responsible for military operations in the Kashmir Valley.
