Election Commission worried over decline in urban voting, gave example of Faridabad and Gurugram, made this plan for Maharashtra

New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the dates of Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections on Tuesday. During this, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar expressed concern over low voting in cities. he/she gave the example of recent incidents in Faridabad and Gurugram of Haryana. Both of these are urban areas, where very low voting was recorded. Expressing concern over apathy towards voting in urban areas, CEC Rajeev Kumar said that in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the voting day has been kept in the middle of the week so that more and more people can vote.

Voting will take place in the middle of the week

The Election Commission is looking into the issue of low voter turnout in major cities of Maharashtra like Mumbai and Pune and is taking several steps to increase awareness among voters. In previous elections, it has been seen that a large number of urban voters consider voting day as a holiday and do not take part in the democratic process.

This appeal was made to urban voters

The Chief Election Commissioner appealed to voters in urban areas to participate in the elections and said that in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the polling day has been kept in the middle of the week to handle the issue of urban apathy. “We are really concerned about the apathy of the urban area,” he/she said. We want to appeal to all voters in urban areas to come and vote.

Example given from Haryana

During this, giving the example of Haryana Assembly elections, he/she said, ‘Look at Gurgaon, look at Faridabad, look at Jubilee Hills (Hyderabad), Bengaluru South, Gandhinagar, Colaba, Pune, Thane, voting at all the places is much higher than the average of the respective state. Is below.’ Rajiv Kumar said, ‘We will hold a special meeting of municipal commissioners within a week to appeal again.’
