Election Commission called Congress for a meeting, the party raised questions on the data of Maharashtra elections.

New Delhi: Congress has approached the Election Commission over data discrepancies in Maharashtra Assembly elections and sought answers. In view of Congress’ complaint, the Election Commission has called the Congress delegation. The Commission has called the Congress delegation for a meeting on Monday. In its initial reply, the Commission has emphasized on the transparency of the election process. he/she informed that there has been participation of candidates/their agents at every stage.

Election Commission assured to give written reply

The Election Commission has assured to review all the legitimate concerns of the Congress and give a written reply after listening to them. Apart from this, emphasis has also been laid on participation and transparency of political parties in the process of voter list updation.

‘There is no error in voting data’

Let us tell you that Congress had raised questions on the voting data. On this, the Election Commission said that there is no irregularity in the voting data. This data is available to all candidates polling station wise and can be checked. The difference between the 5 pm voting data and the final voting data is due to procedural preferences. Presiding Officers have a number of legal duties to perform before the polls close. Only after this they update the voting figures. During the 2024 general elections, the Election Commission had issued a press note at about quarter to 12 in the night. This was a way to provide additional information. Since then the same has been done in all the assembly elections.

Congress had raised questions on voting data

Congress on Friday approached the Election Commission, raising questions over the data in Maharashtra Assembly elections and demanding a detailed answer on it. The party also requested through a memorandum that the Commission should give an opportunity to its leaders to meet so that they can raise these discrepancies and some other issues related to this assembly election. In a memorandum sent to the commission, the Congress said, “We are writing to inform you of some serious anomalies that are emerging in the data related to the voting and counting processes for the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections.”
