ED deployed 29 officers, some were promoted and some came from other departments

New Delhi:The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has posted over 24 newly appointed and recently promoted officers on various posts in its offices located across the country. The ED had posted a total of 29 officers on the posts of Assistant Director, Deputy Director and Joint Director last week.

Officers will be posted at different offices of ED
This includes nine ED cadre officers who were recently promoted by the Union Finance Ministry. This is the first time in the investigation agency that so many officers have been promoted to the post of Joint Director (JD). According to the order of appointments in ED, the cadre officers have been posted as Joint Directors in the ED regional offices located in Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati and the headquarters in Delhi.

Usually IRS and IPS officers are involved
Joint Director is a key post in ED, which oversees investigations related to money laundering and foreign funding. These posts are usually manned by IRS and IPS officers who join the agency on deputation.

A total of 18 IRS officers, who recently joined the ED on deputation from the Income Tax Department, have also been posted as Assistant Directors and Deputy Directors under separate appointment orders issued last week. The ED, which functions under the Union Finance Ministry, investigates crimes related to financial transactions under three laws- Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA).
