Earlier he/she had given a statement in the media and now he/she has apologized, IMA chief said- there was never any intention to lower the dignity of SC


New Delhi : Indian Medical Association (IMA) chief Dr. R.V. Ashokan has publicly apologized for his/her remarks. The matter is related to the statement made by him/her during an interview regarding the remarks made by the Supreme Court. he/she publicly apologized in this regard on Thursday. he/she said that he/she regrets his/her statement. he/she never had any intention to lower the dignity of the court. IMA was a party in the case in which the Supreme Court made the remarks during the hearing.

Publicly apologized for the statement

A statement issued by the doctors’ body said that IMA national president Dr R V Ashokan has publicly apologised for his/her statement to the press regarding the Supreme Court’s comments on IMA being a party to the case. Referring to the April 23 order, Dr Ashokan said in a statement that the IMA is equally concerned about the issues of malpractice.

The apex court had said during the hearing of the misleading advertisement case related to Patanjali Ayurveda Limited that it believes that IMA also needs to set its house in order. In an affidavit filed in the apex court, Dr Ashokan had also tendered an unconditional apology for his/her statement against the apex court.

Dr Ashokan said that IMA has filed a writ petition before the Supreme Court against the misleading advertisements and malicious campaigns being run by some individuals and organizations against modern medical professionals. In reference to some statements made by me during an interview, I have expressed regret before the Supreme Court. I have also submitted my affidavit to the court to apologize unconditionally. he/she said in his/her apology that I never had any intention to diminish the importance or dignity of the apex court.

The Supreme Court had remarked

The Supreme Court had said that there are many complaints regarding alleged unethical acts of the members of the association which break the trust reposed in them by the patients. They are not only prescribing extremely expensive medicines but also recommending avoidable/unnecessary investigations. Dr Ashokan said that continuous update and dissemination of ethical practices is one of the main activities of IMA. The statement said that recently IMA engaged patient groups in a dialogue to address the concerns of patients and a joint declaration was issued in Bengaluru.
