Ear pain in the rain has troubled you, Dr. told 5 ways to remove ear dirt

The rainy season is eagerly awaited as it brings relief from the scorching heat. But along with the rains come hot and humid conditions, which are responsible for increasing health problems among people. These conditions promote the rapid growth of pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

In addition, monsoons also bring with them a certain coolness, which is further aggravated when one gets drenched in the rain. Due to a lowered immune response to infections, the possibility of developing viral upper respiratory tract infections is common under these conditions.

1) Protection from rain
Given that monsoons are usually marked by frequent and untimely rains, one must be well prepared to avoid getting drenched in the rain. It is always advisable to carry a raincoat, umbrella and waterproof shoes to protect yourself from getting wet in case of sudden rains.

2) Cleanliness
During the season, several types of infections are common, underlining the importance of incorporating hygiene practices into everyday life. Practicing hand hygiene, drinking boiled or RO water, and eating home-cooked food should be prioritized to reduce the chances of contracting illness. Raw or junk food should be discouraged, and proper care should be taken, as well as adequate rest, to avoid the development of secondary bacterial infections.

3) Ear infection
Ear infections are a common occurrence during monsoons, especially due to fungal infections. This causes extreme itching, pain and discharge from the ears, for which keeping the ears dry is a preventive measure.

4) Avoid water activities
Waterborne infections are quite common during this season. Hence, people should avoid swimming and other water activities during monsoon to avoid catching cold and developing viral upper respiratory tract infections.

5) Treatment
Even after taking the necessary precautions, if people get the infection, they should go for immediate treatment by taking adequate rest, paying attention to hygiene and staying hydrated to prevent secondary bacterial infections in the nose and sinuses. There may also be rare cases of fungal infection in the sinuses, which are caused by humid and warm conditions that promote the growth of the fungus. However, if the symptoms worsen, it is recommended to seek expert advice for the right course of treatment and antibiotics.
